The Department of Education has made a verbal announcement to reduce administrative burden for verification during the 2018 Federal Student Aid Training Conference. In certain circumstances, they will allow schools to collect a tax return in place of a tax transcript and alternative documentation of the Verification of Non Filing Letter for students selected for verification. The Department of Education stated that written guidance would be shared in the near future with the financial aid community and that institutions should wait for the written guidance prior to taking action. Once guidance is issued, CampusLogic will evaluate it and make a determination regarding adjustments to it's application.

On January 9, 2019 the Department of Education released guidance allowing for flexibility on acceptable documentation as part of the verification process for 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 effective with the notice release date. The electronic announcement is available here for reference. The purpose of the announcement is to reduce burden on students selected for verification who are experiencing difficulty obtaining a tax transcript and or verification of non-filing letter.
CampusLogic is in the process of reviewing the new guidance and anticipates making updates to appropriate tasks and help content within the StudentForms application. Items such as this are expedited in the development process and schools can anticipate hearing from their CSM in the near future.
In the mean time students can upload alternative documentation into the existing tasks for institutional review.
