An update provided by the Department of Education on May 15, 2020 provides guidance on additional regulatory flexibilities due to Coronavirus. You may read the full electronic announcement here. The guidance included additional flexibility for students selected for V4 or V5 verification and the requirement to provide documentation of high school completion or the equivalent. This guidance is applicable through December 31st, 2020 and applies to both the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 award years.
If the student is unable to obtain official documentation and the institution does not already have documentation of high school completion or the equivalent, the guidance allows for the student to provide a signed and dated statement in which he/she truthfully attests that he/she has completed secondary school or the equivalent. The signed statement must also indicate 1) whether the student received a high school diploma or the equivalent the student obtained and 2) the date(or approximate date) of completion.
The proof of high school completion task in StudentForms is an upload only step, at this time no changes will be made to StudentForms. If a student is unable to obtain official documentation and the institution does not have documentation of high school completion or the equivalent, the student may upload their signed and dated statement into the upload step in StudentForms.
