The IRS DRT option is available in the tax task options of the household form based on the DRT codes on the student's ISIR.

  • If the student and/or parent has already used the DRT successfully and has an 02 code on their ISIR the taxes section does not appear in the verification form.
  • If the student and/or parent has the DRT code of 03 and only the IRS Data Field Flags for IRA Distributions or Untaxed Pensions have a value of 02 and all other IRS Data Field Flags remain unchanged with an 01 value, the student does not receive the taxes section of the verification form.
  • If the student and/or parent has the DRT code of 07 and all of the IRS Data Field Flags remained unchanged with an 01 value, the student does not receive the taxes section(s) of the verification form.
  • If the student/parent has a DRT code of 01,04,05 they will have the option of choosing to use the IRS DRT as one of their tax task options.
  • If the student/parent has a DRT code of 00 or 06 they are not presented with the option to use the DRT as these codes indicate that the student/parent is not eligible to use the DRT.

If the student/parent believes that they may be eligible to use the DRT and they are not given the option in the taxes section of the household form, the student or parent can make a correction to the FAFSA to try to use the IRS DRT.
