Release Notes

This release includes the official launch of the 2021-2022 award year along with additional enhancements.

2021-2022 Award Year

The 2021-2022 award year is currently available in sandbox environments for testing. It will become available in production environments on October 1 with the closing of the 2019-2020 year.

Much of the content from 2020-2021 has been rolled over into the new award year. Year specific web forms and upload documents (such as the 2019 tax documentation) have been added for the new year, but no significant changes have been made around Verification and Conditional Code tasks.

One notable change specific to the aid year:

  • [SV-3730] - 2021-2022 Independent/Dependent/Graduate Verification Web Forms
    • Carried over from prior years, when an institute allows statements of non-filing to be provided and the student selects a non-filing option in the verification web forms for themselves and/or parents, a separate task is generated allowing the student to choose whether they are providing the verification of non-filing or the statement of non-filing. Similar to this, if an institute chooses to allow tax returns to be provided in lieu of a tax transcript, the 2021-2022 verification web forms will now generate a separate task to allow student to select between uploading a tax transcript and tax return. For previous years, if tax returns were allowed then they were the only document to be requested from the verification web forms, otherwise only the tax transcripts would be requested.
    • Please reach out to your Customer Success Manager to ensure you're Verification settings are ready for the new year:
      • Household section always required or only required determined by marital status/number in household or more than one reported in college
      • Allowing a statement of non-filing in lieu of the IRS verification of non-filing
      • Dependent students required to provide verification/statement of non-filing or
      • Allowing signed 1040 tax returns in lieu of a tax transcript

Don't forget to prepare for the new award year!

  • [SV-2904] - Global Household and College Size Web Form
    • A student and parent version of the global Household and College Size web form can now be requested under the Verification and PJ EFC transactions. This form mimics the Household section of the verification web form, with the same rules and logic around adding members and generating sub tasks based on information given. This can be used to in cases where an institute wishes to verify household information when the verification web form is unavailable, such as a student selected for V4 verification.
  • [SV-3773] - Switch to Allow Statement of Educational Purpose Student Upload to be Optional
    • Two new switches under a new subsection are found in the admin settings under Admin > Settings > Documents. The Statement of Educational Purpose section allows institutes to select whether or not they wish to allow students to upload the Statement of Educational Purpose documents by award year 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. If enabled for an award year, students will see the Upload button and be allowed to provide the documents. Otherwise when disabled students will see the generic message that the school will upload the documents on their behalf and the upload button is hidden from them.
    • PLEASE NOTE: These switches do not work retroactively. Once enabled/disabled, it will only effect students where the task is generated afterwards. It does not change the option for students who already have the task.
  • [SV-3789] - StudentForms Account Creation/Registration & SSO PIN Validation Enhancement
    • Previously, anywhere students entered their first and last name to be validated against the ISIR, an exact match was needed to confirm the validation. This included the account creation page (for Direct Sign-ON DSO institutions), account registration page (for Single-Sign On SSO institutions), and the create/forgot PIN (SSO institutions). Students with longer names than what is reported on the ISIR file often had issues because the longer name entered did not match the cut-off name on the ISIR. These pages have been revamped to now only validate against the characters of the first/last name given on the ISIR file and any additional characters entered for longer names will not be validated, no longer creating issues for not finding exact matches.
      • Example:
        • Student First Name: SUPERLONGFIRSTNAME
        • First Name On ISIR: SUPERLONGFIR (first 12 characters)
        • Validation: SUPERLONGFIRSTNAME (only the part in bold)
